Después de dos semanas ayudando a Kevin y Maryanne en Good Notes
Community Farm, comenzó nuestra travesía por carretera en tierras nórdicas/ After two weeks helping Kevin and Maryanne at
Good Notes Community Farm, we start our road trip across West Canada.
Como siempre, improvisamos la ruta, enfocándonos en lugares donde no
hay muchos visitantes, pero buenas rutas de treking, y lo más importante donde
podamos acampar gratis/
Like
always, we didn't make too much plans and we focus more on find places without
too many visitors, but with good hiking trails, and more important where we
could camp for free
Durante casi 3 meses vivimos
la vida jipi, sin más preocupaciones que encontrar un lugar bonito donde dormir./ During
almost 3 months we had a really really hippie lifestyle, without too much
worries than to find a nice place to sleep.
Esto fue lo mejor de nuestro viaje/ This are the highlights of our trip:
Wells Gray Provincial Park
Jasper National Park
Estuvimos en Jasper por más
de una semana, la ruta por la carretera 93 desde Lake Louise hasta el
pueblo de Jasper es maravillosa, en el camino encontraras el famoso Columbia
Icefield, lleno de gente en la época estival, vale la pena parar ahí después de
las 8 de la noche (en la montaña oscurece a eso de las 10) y disfrutar del
panorama sin el estrés de millones de turistas.
Jasper tiene millón de
senderos disponibles para los visitantes. Nosotros subimos el Skyline Sulfure
(el comienzo del sendero está en las termas, por lo que después de todo ese
esfuerzo un relajito en el agüita caliente viene de maravilla) En Maligne Lake
subimos el Opall Hill, trae bear spray! Y dimos la vuelta por Moose Loop. Nos
arrepentimos de no haber subido a Mt Edith Cavell, pero llovía que se las
pelaba ese día.
Si planeas quedarte por
más de una semana y quieres abastecerte barato, Hinton cuenta con wallmart y
safeways, se encuentra camino a las termas de Miette asi que puedes hacer un
buen viaje a las termas y luego irte de shopping.
We spend more than a week in Jasper, the driving across highway 93
from Banff to Jasper town is breathtaking. In the way you will find the famous
Columbia Icefield, packed with people during the summer time, it’s worth go
after 8pm when you can enjoy the view of the glaciers with no stress or
hundreds around you.
Jasper has a tons of hiking trails. We hike the Skyline Sulfur (the
head trail is in the hot springs, so after the hike a soak in the springs its
amazing) In Maligne Lake we hike the Opal Hill, bring bear spray! and the Moose
Loop. We regret didn't hike the Mt Edith Cavell, but it was raining really bad
that day.
If you plan to stay here for more than a week and want to buy cheap
food, Hinton may be a good idea. It’s located in the way to Miette Hot Spring,
so you can make a good trip to the springs and then go shopping.

Highway 93: Hilda Ridge and the Aircraft park, pero para ser honesto
en la carretera te puedes parar donde sea, hay mucho lugares/ Hilda Ridge and the Aircraft park, but
honestly along the highway there’s lots of cool and nice places.

Wells Gray Provincial
Park
El parque es conocido por
sus caídas de agua, desde donde dormimos seguimos manejando hasta encontrar dos
cataratas, una dicen la más alta de BC.
The park is well known for the nice waterfalls, from our sleeping spot
we kept driving until find two falls within a short walking distance from the
parking lot, one of them the highest in BC.

Clinton
Clinton es un pueblo de
una calle, así que seguimos de largo camino a la reserva india de Pavillion
(hay un camino habilitado sólo en el verano que te lleva desde la carretera 97
a la 99 sin tener que dar la vuelta por Cache Creek) llegamos a un lago al lado
del tren donde éramos las únicas almas (baño compostero- no hay agua)
Clinton is a village with a single street. We keep driving to the
Pavilion indian reserve (the road is open just in the summer, you can jump from
highway 97 to 99 without going to Cache Creek, ask to the locals) we reach a
lake where we were just us (pit toilet- no water)

Pemberton
Manejamos unos 40 km
desde el pueblo en dirección al río Lillooet y paramos donde nos tincó (no baño
– no agua) Pemberton es la alternativa al turístico Whistler, más barato y
menos gente. La cidra Okanagan da una caña macabra, pero bien vale la pena por
menos de 8 dólares.
From the town we drove 40 km towards Lillooet river and we stop in a
place we thought it was nice, and it was, no people around just us and the
river! Don’t expect water or toilet. Pemberton is a really good alternative to
Whistler, less people and cheaper. The Okanagan cider will give you a bad
hangover, but it’s just 8 bucks for 2 liters.

Whistler
Aquí hicimos dos noches,
la primera en el estacionamiento de Cheakamus Lake y la segunda en Garibaldi Lake
(ambos con baño compostero- no hay agua) Hicimos ambas rutas, sin embargo el
treking por el lago Garibaldi es hermoso, un lago en medio de las montañas donde
el agua es verde esmeralda, vale la pena verlo.
We stay for two nights, first at the head trail of Cheakamus Lake and
then at Garibaldi Lake (pit toilet- no water) We hike the both lakes, but
Garibaldi's it’s in the middle of the mountains and the water is emerald green,
really nice to see.

Squamish
Hicimos 4 noches aquí.
Diamond Head (16 km al noreste del pueblo), Bomwe Lake (norte) y las últimas
dos al costado de la carretera 99 camino a Vancouver, pasado del Porteau Cove
Marine Park hay una vuelta en U para tomar la carretera hacia el norte, en el
tope hay un estacionamiento, dice NO CAMPING, pero había tanta gente durmiendo
que nos quedamos
No se pierdan la vista
desde el Stawamus Chief, las piernas quedan echas bolsa, pero es increible. El
marine park Porteau Cove es un lugar genial para cocinar y echarse a ver el
océano. El recreational centre tiene piscina de agua fría y caliente y sauna,
cuesta 5 dolares y es una buena alternativa para relajarse y darse una ducha. Hay
wallmart para abastecerse por poca plata y muchos cafes donde se puede pechar
internet gratis
We stay here for 4 nights. At Diamond Head parking lot(16 kms north
east), Bomwe Lake (north) and the last two night next to highway 99 (drive
towards Vancouver, after Porteau Cove Marine Park it’s a U turn to take the
highway to the north, keep driving up, the parking lot says NO CAMPING, but we
saw so many cars and people sleeping that we stay anyway)
We hike the Chief, the vista from there its spectacular. Porteau Cove
Marine Park it’s a cool place to cook and enjoy the sea. The recreational
center has a cool pool, steam room and hot tub, the admission fee is just 5
bucks. There’s a walmart to buy cheap food and lots of cafes where you can get
free internet

Vancouver
Estacionamiento de AWG
(restaurante de hamburguesas) al norte de E Hasting, como a 15 minutos del
downtown en bus. En nuestro día citadino fuimos a Stanley Park, paseamos por
Davie (el barrio gay donde el sushi es más barato que el pan), Gastown o Cambie
St, por unas cervezas. Ya antes habíamos estado en Gasville Island que está
buenísimo también. Mejor moverse en
bus, 10 tickets por 21cad
We spend one night at AWG parking lot (north
of E Hasting St), 15 minutes to downtown by bus. In our city day we visit
Stanley Park, Davie (gay village where sushi is cheaper than bread) and Gastown
or Cambie St for few beers. Before we visit Gasville Island that also is a
Vancouver must. Better to travel by bus, 10 tickets for 21 cad.
Hope
Hicimos dos noche en
Jones Lakes, como a 20 minutos desde la carretera 1 (baño compostero- no agua)
El sitio está buenísimo para acampar, el lago es bello y temperado, nos bañamos
(hurra!) y descansamos
Cerca de Hope, hicimos el
treking a Mt Outram, hermosa vista sobre los 2000 mts.
We stay for two nights at Jones Lakes, almost 20 minutes from highway
1 after Harrison Hot Springs (pit toilet- no water) This is a real camping site
for free, the lake is beautiful and the water is warm, we took a bath (hurray!)
and rest a lot.
Close to Hope we hike the Mt Outram, nice views over 2000 mts.

Penticton
Pentincton es una ciudad
grande asi que dormimos en Wallmart. Puedes dormir en Naramata o en Summerland,
pero es mucho mas difícil encontrar lugares. El parque
provincial de Cathedral esta muy cerca.
Penticton is a big city so we stay at Walmart’s parking lot. You can
try to sleep in Naramata or Summerland close to the lake, but it’s really hard
to find places. The Cathedral Provincial Park is really close and worth it to
have a look

Revelstoke
Nos quedamos dos noches,
dormimos al lado del rio cerca de la piscina pública (aquatic center) La
carretera dentro del parque te llevará a un estacionamiento desde donde hay
muchos pequeños senderos para disfrutar de una caminata tranquila. Buen precio
en la piscina, por 5 dólares acceso a todas las instalaciones.
We stay here for two nights, we slept next to the river close to the
public pool (aquatic center) The highway inside the park will take you to the
top of Mt Revelstoke, from there you will find several small hikes. The public
pool has a really good price, just 5 bucks for using all the facilities.

Kootenay National Park
La carretera en el parque
nacional de Kootenay es muy bella, la vista de las montañas toma mucha fuerza.
Dormimos cerca del río por dos noches. Subimos a “Dog Lake” y visitamos “Marble
Canyon” si tienes tiempo para una sola aventura tu mejor apuesta es Stanley
Glacier, la clave es seguir caminando hacia el glaciar donde la vista es
espectacular.
Puedes visitar las termas
de Radium, fuimos y estaban llenas de gente y la verdad es que no son muy
lindas, pero vale la pena por la ducha jejeje
The 104 kms along highway 93 south are beautiful. We slept two nights
next to the river. During our stay we went to Dog Lake and we visit Marble
Canyon, but if you have time for a single adventure your best bet is Stanley
Glacier, the key of the hike is to keep walking towards the glacier even if the
maintenance trail is over (you will find a signboard) walk as much as you can,
and if you make it to the glacier like us you will get the best pictures ever.
Desde Kootenay nos fuimos
a Canmore, luego de eso pasamos unos días más en Jasper. Canada ha sido un muy
buen país con nosotros. Nos hemos maravillado con montañas, lagos y muchos
animales, desde los más pequeñitos hasta los más feroces. Si tienes un lado
explorador y aventurero te diré que vale la pena 100% conectarse con la
naturaleza en este territorio gigante, vas a ahorrar muchas lucas durmiendo al
lado del camino y en tu perfomance hippie conocerás gente inolvidable.
From Kootenay we drove to Canmore, from there we stop again in Jasper
for few days.
Canada has been really good with us. We have seen so many wonderful
nature like mountains, lakes and animals, from the smallest ones to huge ones.
If you have an explorer heart it’s worth it 100% to live and connect
with the nature in this true level. You will save lots of money sleeping in the
road, will met awesome people and you will never regret, believe me!
Next destination: Mexico
